In its Cadran, Cofidis study the behavior of loan consumers in France and Europe.
In 2003, for the 20th year running, the French consumer credit market showed a growth in its amount outstanding. The consumer loan market in France recorded a growth of 4.7% in 2003, 2 points more than in 2002. The credit market seems then to have taken off again, after having shown a slow-down for three years. The new impetus in consumer credit seems to confirm the increasing importance of credit in France as support for consumption
The consumer credit market grew by 4.7% in 2003, which, given the economic climate in France, looks like a good performance. Apart from 1991, a year which was heavily disrupted by the Gulf conflict, the consumer credit market in France had grown for the last 15 years, at an average rate of 7.1%. Even if the French population continued to prefer personal loans to finance their plans and purchases.
